                            Sonson Progressive Martial Arts Academy

Respect, Concentration, Self-Control, Honesty, Perseverance, just a few of many things martial arts training can offer you.  Strength, Speed, Flexibility, Knowledge of yourself, Coordination, Balance, Self-Discipline, Self-Defense and more can be gained through martial arts.

What Style is taught? Some call it a "FREESTYLE" and very well fall into that category.  Everyone has their own opinion on what style means.  In the Martial Arts world, "style", is used to categorize a way of things and taught and performed in a certain way.  "FREESTYLE" is a modern karate art with techniques that resemble kick-boxing.  Technically our academy is categoriesed as a freestyle, but it's not only a freestyle.

Our base art history comes from, World Class Karate, John Kyles American Karate, and DeAnzo Martial Arts Science.  It's also a blend of other styles and influences, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Escrima, Knife, Grappling (Jujitsu), Ba Gua Zhang Fighting Staff and Fist.

We do not offer a specific style class. It's a blend of modern and traditional arts and practices mentioned above.  Understanding the roots, understanding human evolution, and knowing that there is no one true style, is one thing that make Sonson Progressive Martial Arts Academy training effective.  New or modified techniques are created from time to time from other martial arts practitioners around the world, then the knowledge is spread out and shared to modern practitioners.  Curriculum and class drills get updated which provide a healthy challenge for students.

"I intend to develop myself in a positive manner, and to avoid anything that would reduce my mental growth and my physical health"

"I intend to develop self-discipline, in order to bring out the best in myself and others"

"I intend to use what I learn in class constructively and defensively, to help myself and my fellow man, and never to be abusive or offensive"

Our student creed.  Passed down from many academys before us.  Students say together out loud in the beginning of every class, to remind them of their purpose of training.  We all come in to practice for many different reasons.  Strength, stress relief, self-defense, coordination, health, etc.  No matter what reason, it will fall under the creed, which all in all means to become a better person in everything we do.  The "7 habits" of highly effective people is also a big influence in our training.

Not limiting yourself, always challenging yourself, keeping an open mind, striving to become a better person in life, to progress.
